At Waves Surfing Academy, we believe in building a better community and that our students are our future. We provide high school & college students (within the surrounding community) the opportunity to get involved with our program through either Student Service Learning Hours or Academic Service Learning Hours.
High School Student Service Learning (SSL) Hours
Waves Surf Academy offers high school students the opportunity to receive SSL hours through community engagement. Student Service Learning is a credit-bearing, educational experience in which students participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs. Our program is designed in such a way as to gain further understanding of our ecosystem, a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility.
Students will participate in beach preservation & clean-up projects.
College / University Student Academic Service Learning (ASL) Hours
Academic Service Learning is more than a volunteer activity; it integrates community service with instruction. It is designed to enrich the learning experience through hands-on activity and to teach civic responsibility. College professors assign college students projects that are to be taught to the campers at an age appropriate level. Academic Service Learning requires students to apply what they learn in the classroom and to reflect on their experiences by thinking , discussing and writing about them.
Waves Surf Academy offers college students the opportunity to receive ASL hours through a meaningful service in the community.
